One of the best way to maintain a good health is exercise and eating healthy food. Also, stopping eating red meat and eating more veggie.
Yes, you can do it. This is what I say to myself to keep going. Once, I was overweight, slow walker, slow breather, ate too much if red meat, and never exercised. Till one day, I just decided to stop eat red meat and exercise. After exercising for an hour at the gym, I lost many weight, became better walker, and looked nicer. Therefore, we all can do it, even if we busy, 30 minutes can do lot. If we run for 10 minutes, and exercise for a half hour, in month we can notice big different. This can help us to live longer, look better, healthier, and sleep better.
So if you stop eating burgers and replace it with vegetarian food, you will reduce many diseases. There are many good reasons to be vegetarian. First, personal finance because of the health care costs. Been on vegetarian diet and eating less meat, means spending less money on health care. Second, food costs, everyone knows the cost of meat is higher than vegetarian. Third, ethics most of us loves animals, and we don’t have a desire to kill them. Finally and the most important is our health. According to many doctors, eating too much red meat can cause us many diseases such as high cholesterol, fats, and high blood pressure. Therefore, we can reduce from eating meats, and find an alternative ways of protein, which can be found in many vegetarian. This can really change our lives.
These some steps can help to improve our health.
    1. Start with 30 minutes per day for 1 week. Then, increase 10 minutes to your work out.
    2. Set a goal and train for at least 4 days a week
    3. Eat healthy, fresh, and clean food
    4. Eat a variety of fruits
    5. Sleep for an eight hours per day
    6. Have couple good friends in your life
    7. Visit your family this will make you happier

    3. This is an excellent guide for good health. It ties in with recent findings that red meat can cause cancer. We will all probably have better health by eating more fruits and vegetables and getting some exercise. Thanks for getting the discussion off to a good start.

  2. It is difficult sometimes to keep your heath in good shape when there are many things out there that make you want to eat or have. I believe that these four things can help have a good healthy life. One of them is by brushing and flossing daily because believe it or not but our mouth is the cleanest but can also be the most dirtiest because of all the food we may eat or dugs we may enhance. The second one is getting a good night’s rest because this allows the body to rest up and get energy for the next day. It helps the body by relaxing it and not over working it. The third one is enjoy regular family meals because this allows parents to sever as a good role model and can promote more nutritious eating habits and also having a connected family is a powerful aspect of healthy life. The last one I believe maintains a good heath is smile and laugh out loud several times a day. This keeps you grounded and helps you cope with situations that would otherwise make you crazy. This allows you to have a long life if you laugh and smile because its happiness. So the four steps that I believe can allow someone to have a good life are
    1. brush and floss daily
    2. good night's rest
    3. enjoy regular family meals
    4. smile and laugh out loud

I am a person who thinks about her health and try my best to stay healthy. I think about all the food that gets into my stomach. I try my best not to eat fast food because I know how it is made and what is in it, and the worst part is that it is not clean. Fast foods such as burgers, pizzas among other food products that have very high calories such as chips that are deep fried and the foods that are sugary are very easy to find and relatively cheap in the United States. These particular foods are also not useful at all as far as nutritional value is concerned therefore, to reduce and ultimately prevent obesity, the United States Surgeon General proposes a diet that is rich in nutrients which abides by the 2010 USDA Dietary Guidelines for America. There is also the recommendation that adults should be able to get at least half an hour of exercise in most of the days while the children should exercise for a whole hour. The best ways that an individual can be able to include more activity in their day-to-day lives is through using the stairs instead of the elevator, using parking spaces that are further than the entrances to so that one can walk more and using a push mower as opposed to the power mower. The children should be encouraged to play outside after school instead of sitting idly or watching television so that they can remain active.

    1. Hi Farah! It is good that you think about your health and try to be as healthy as you can be. We're human and sometimes we may fall slip and indulge and some sugary sweets or are to lazy to exercise but as long as we get back up and try again we are doing the best we can. (Even if it is the next day or a month later)

  4. Knowing this information, why do people continue to smoke, overeat, take illegal drugs, miss out on sleep, or practice unsafe sex?
I think people continue to smoke because of stress. A lot of people that smoke cigarets did it when they were younger got addicted and now smoke when they get stressed out about things. When smokes get stressed out the first thing they do is go smoke. A lot of people over eat because they like food or because they are really hungry. A lot of people keep on doing drugs because they are addicted and can't get away from drugs. They also like to do drugs because they like the feeling of the high they get and can't get away from it. I can't really say why people have unsafe sex which would mean not using protection but i have read a couple articles and they say it feels better or they won't have anything to protect their self at the time. You can say people have unsafe sex because they want a baby. I think a lot of people miss out on sleep because they are really busy with school or work. One of the main reasons why I only sleep 5 hours a day is because I am so busy I got to school then work right after then I come home and do homework after.

    2. Dear Louie,
Stress dose not exist if we don't believe in it. The life is like this, one day we happy, the next day, we feel sad or stress. If we can escape from the matrix system, believe me we can live better. Think about the old generation, people never smoked, never done drug. Their life was worst than now

  5. Knowing this information, why do people continue to smoke, overeat, take illegal drugs, miss out on sleep, or practice unsafe sex?

In my opinion, I think people continue to smoke because there is always a way to quit smoking after they feel that their health is getting worse, it is just they can’t stop smoking, when I ask someone to quit smoking, he says I can’t because he addicted to it. Also the same thing happens when they over eat, take illegal drugs, miss out on sleep, or practice unsafe sex.
I compare these things to like drinking a water or eat every day, will we be able to live if we stop drinking a water or stop eating? No, because if we will not eat or drink, we would definitely die and this is the same thing to the bad practices listed above, the people know that these bad habitis will lead to death, but they just don’t care because if they leave these habits or not, they will die anyways because their body is addicted to them.
It is just depends on how the people think and what is their level of awareness and will they be able to leave these habits behind and live healthy? It is up to them.

    • Not practicing monogamous or safe sex can lead to STD’s including AIDS.

Knowing this information, why do people continue to smoke, overeat, take illegal drugs, miss out on sleep, or practice unsafe sex?

Knowing information about smoking being bad does not stop many people because they are addicted. They think they want to stop but unless they really put their mind to it they will not. Many times people won't stop smoking until they experience a health issue or have hit rock bottom from smoking. For example my grandfather had smoked for over 50 years and he finally quit smoking after he got cancer in his throat. He is doing fine now but after many doctor visits, medicine, and radiation. (This is what got him to stop smoking.)

Overeating is a big issue for many. Overeating could be cause by many reasons and even with knowing people will continue to do so. Overeating could be from depression or just having no knowledge of portion control.

Even though people may know taking illegal drugs are bad they continue to do so because just like smoking they become addicted and their bodies can't handle withdrawals. Also drugs give people different feelings whether its to help them "relax" or "focus". People sadly believe that these drugs will change the way they feel when really they are just harming themselves.

People miss out on sleep even when they know its important. People still miss out on it because they may not know how it is really affecting their lives. A few times here and there may be fine but it all eventually adds up.

People continue to be having unsafe sex because, they aren't thinking or they just think it won't happen to them. For example many teens/adults will think I won't get pregnant or I won't get an STD. It could even be the lack of being prepared. I think that if you're going to do anything like that , at least know what could possibly happen and be adult enough to prevent it and help yourself.

  7. Sleep to remember, remember to sleep

Based on the video I have watched, I realized that is it healthier for us to get enough sleep even if we can't because we have materials left off. For example, I realized when I was in the high school, I used to sleep at 6:00 am in the morning because I was scared I will not do very well if I didn't finish studying and when I take the test, I don't do very well, I score like 85 out of 100 or sometimes less, but when I sleep before I finish studying, I score higher and this happens because I still remember the material and what I have studied during the the months in school. Sleeping is the best thing to do after a long day.

  8. People practice habits that are detrimental to their personal wellbeing because they are shown by the media and peers that it is socially acceptable to destroy our bodies. Smoking, drinking, and doing drugs are activities glorified by the media and make up a teenager’s wet dream of partying through life. The social acceptance leads to the development of an addiction that grows so big it becomes a problem to get rid of it. Anyone can become addicted to anything if they do not practice in moderation and feel overcome by the urge to participate in a specific activity. I smoked cigarettes for 4 years before deciding to quit. I personally started because I was constantly around family, friends, and even strangers who were smoking, so I thought it was ok to do. I would have to say the reasons why I smoked in the first place were rooted in social acceptance, then true addiction occurred. I would get headaches from not smoking a cigarette early enough in the morning and become highly irritable throughout the day, the classic nicotine withdrawal symptoms. During my time off from school, I realized it was time for me to kick the habit. The contemplation period was extremely drawn out because I did not know when or how to stop when people around me were smoking cigarettes constantly. It will be a year on December 5 that I stopped smoking. The journey has not been easy, to say the least. I went cold turkey for the first three months and I switched to vaping when cutting it all out at once became overwhelming. I went from an 18mg of nicotine to a 3mg, the lowest level next to 0mg in the 9 months I have been vaping. The vape community has provided a support system of individuals, some of whom were decade long smokers and they finally quit with the help of modified electronic cigarettes. One day I will quit vaping since it is just a stepping stone on my road to being nicotine-free.

  9. I think the main reason why people continue to smoke and use drugs is because of depression or something they might be going through in life. They might be in a dark place and have no way out and tend to use drugs or smoke to relieve the pain away and have a break with their dark thoughts. It’s dangerous and a bad addiction and can obviously cause death but I believe they have no control over it once they start. It’s hard to stop an addiction especially with drugs with abusers. I would say the five most important steps in maintain a good health is having a good diet plan, good exercise, getting sleep, remaining calm when dealing with stress, and to relax. These are very important to follow through and maintaining a good health because it allows us to be happy and satisfied with ourselves. I like to always look at the brightside of things and be positive on the outcomes even if it’s not the way I wanted it to be. We have so little time in this world and to be unhappy wouldn’t do much for me. I know sometimes thing may go wrong but there’s nothing I can do but learn from my experiences and move on.

The five most important steps to maintaining your good health
    1. Drink more water: in our daily life we tend to drink coffee and soda and other drinks like energy drinks more than thinking to drink water. Water is important for our body function so our body needs tow litters of water a day also we could drink water after each cup of coffee or other drinks.
    2. Have enough sleep: the key for that would be sleeping early and having at least 6 hours of sleep so the next day you wake up with enough energy to start your day.
    3. Eating healthy foods: for example eat less fast food and increase the amount of fruits and veggie, also have your meal contain all the part of the healthy foods (grain, fruits and vegie, protein, and daily) that your body needs to do the function and you will not feel hungry after a while.
    4. Exercise: doing some exercising everyday have a very important effect on your health and your mental state for example going to the gym, walking for hour or have every day)
    5. Smile ( be happy): even if you are stressful or have a problem always look for something around you make you happy and laugh because that make you’re feeling good and keep you healthy .

  11. Not getting enough sleep is harmful to health and learning.

I am one of people who knows that not getting enough sleep is harmful to health and learning, but whenever I try to get enough sleep I can't!! Why? Simply, I work 4 days a week, 8 hours a day, my work starts 6 am, so I have to wake up at 5 am to dress up and get ready to go to work. When I get home I eat my lunch, have a rest for a while, and try to take a nap to get some energy. When I wake up from my nap, I do my activities like doing my homework which never ends because I am taking 5 classes which is 12 units beside my work. I barely can finish my homework before 12 am to sleep but sometimes I don't finish them until 2-3 am, especially when I have exams. The next day( on my days off) I go to college from 9am to 7pm. When I come back home from college I barely can take a shower, eat some food, study for a while and then it's 12 am again, I sleep and wake up at 5 am to go to work!! So there is no way I can make to sleep early or get enough sleep. I am always busy and have many things need to be done before sleep. Otherwise, my only wish is sleeping as much as I can.

  12. I watched the video "Jaime Oliver: Teach Every Child about Food." I thought what he had to say was correct and accurate and unfortunately probably incredibly optimistic. I agreed with everything he said. Why would you not teach kids about health and nutrition and offer them correct food choices at school?
My daughter just started going to kindergarten. She doesn't like normal food anyway, but even if she did, I am not impressed with the lunch choices at the San Diego school districts. These are supposedly healthy choices and some of them are, but it also requires the children to choose the healthy option over the not as healthy options. Why would they do that if they don't understand anything about nutrition like Mr. Oliver was saying? They do offer a salad bar, but kids have to appreciate a salad or the choices there in order to eat those things.
My husband is a prime example of someone who was taught horrible eating habits and didn't realize how bad they were till he was 35 and his metabolism suddenly slowed down. He was one of those thin people who thought they were safe and could eat whatever they wanted so he kept eating whatever he wanted (junk and no fruits or vegetables) even though his body was no longer burning those extra calories. Forty pounds and 10 years later, he is struggling to get rid of all the belly fat. It is a struggle because losing weight is extremely hard and because he was never taught to even like healthy foods.
If we taught kids healthy food choices like Jamie Oliver is fighting for, and not just a short unit in school (like I remember having), or even in the two hour session he says is effective, but in school all throughout the year, they world would be a different place 20 years from now. Our nation would be healthier and not be in as big of debt healthcare-wise as we are headed for.
Why is physical health and life skills not as important as academics? What good are academics if your mental and physical health are suffering and why can we not find a balance. Perhaps academic performance would increase if the physiological and psychological well-being of our children was increased.

  14. Hello,
If I assumed that I am writing a magazine article titled , "The Five Most Important Steps to Maintaining Your Good Health." What ideas would I include in this article? The first idea I would include in this article is that the importance of getting enough hours of sleep every night. For example, researches show that adults who sleep 7-8 hours a night tend to be in a better mode and concentrate and remember much more things and be in a better health than those who sleep less than 7 or 8 hours. The second thing I would include in this article is the importance of eating fruits and vegetables everyday. A lot of people are not very friendly with eating fruits and vegetables, but they are very important to the body, brain and the health as well. The third thing I would include in this article is the importance of eating less fast food, and eating more of home cooked food. People can not trust fast food no matter how good the food tastes or looks. Cooking food at home is a lot more safer and healthier. The fourth thing I would include in this article is the importance of exercising everyday to maintain a good health. The fifth thing I would include in this article would be to keep myself motivated all the times by getting with a group of people and remind myself how important our health is.

  15. Knowing this information, why do people continue to smoke, overeat, take illegal drugs, miss out on sleep, or practice unsafe sex?

that's a question i'd really like an answer too. although, i believe that some people become ignorant of the truth about the causes when they're doing something they enjoy. and also, addiction is a big part of it, some people are addicted maybe to smoking, so it become a habit that they cant let go of. also, when that kind of addiction is involved, i believe that the mindset starts working in a way that tells itself that it's not that bad to smoke, drink, or have unsafe sex.....
some people tend to find excuses for doing such things, or they might convince themselves that it's not bad for their health.
i'm not so sure either, but at least thats what i think
i mean if everyone was perfect, no one smokes, drinks, or have unsafe sex....
and everybody were exercising and eating healthy
then there will be no need for doctors, or medicines. i believe that people make their own choices based on what makes them happy
not everyone's goal in life is to be healthy
but at least the ones who have that goal, which is myself included
should be exercising at least 5 times a week, eating healthy, and sleeping well.

  16. Assume that you are writing magazine article, "The Five Most Important Steps to Maintaining Your Good Health." What ideas would you include in this article?

1.)The first idea that I would include in this article would be keeping up with a good diet or meal plan. Balancing your meal can be effective in such a positive manner because your body is taking in all types of nutrients, good fats and sugars and proteins. Also having your meals prepped helps you avoid eating other unhealthy foods or buying food at fast food places.
2.) Second thing I would include is exercising. Exercising at least one hour to one hour and a half a day is very good to someones heath and can help with stress. Making any type of exercise a lifestyle is something I highly recommend.
3.) Third things that I would include is getting enough sleep. When someone does not get enough sleep it is hard for them to concentrate. For example, a college student, when that student stays up late studying, that student wakes up very exhausted and with very few energy. It is better to get things done earlier that way you can have enough rest because getting enough rest is the way to get energy also.
4.) Drinking more water is something I would also include because that is what our body is mostly made off and it is what we need to keep us going. Drinking lots of water also prevents one by eating larger meals.
5.)Lastly would be doing things that keeps one relaxed. Being stressed gets in the way of a lot of things and can cause depression, negative thinking, and low self esteem. Something that really prevents being stressed is having positive thinking, laying down on a comfortable place, and listening to soothing music.

i used to eat a lot of junk food and just bad food in general for years and not exercise, i was happy that I had a fast metabolism because I was not gaining wight at all but i didn't notice the other health risks that it was putting me in. so i decided to switch my live style and live a better, healthy life. And i did that 3 years ago and i feel better than ever. at first it was hard to start and get used to eat types of food that i didn't really like, but over time it got easier, currently I eat a lot of whole grain food, since I have become a big gym person, and i workout a lot and more than anything else. and I focus on eating a lot of protein and healthy snacks, i eat about 7 to 8 meals a day mostly in small portions but the contain high healthy carbs and high protein in them. which helps my muscle growth and illuminates the fat in my body. along with that comes having a good sleep, i used to stay up late a lot and wake up early for my job therefore i was barely having any sleep because i did not know how important it was. now i try to get at leasts 6 to 8 hours of sleep and start my day with a good healthy breakfast meal. After all I am glad i made all these changed in my life. because now i feel better than ever.

  18. Share some of your intention statements:

I intend to add more fruits and vegetables in my daily diet. I definitely need to take this step and eat healthier overall. The first step I can take to achieve this is by changing what I buy at the grocery store. By purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables instead of chips and other unhealthy snacks, I will only have the option to eat better. I also can explore recipes including more vegetables that make it more exciting to eat them.

I intend to go to bed at the same time every day and getting at least eight hours of sleep each night. I can begin to achieve this by coming up with a routing to follow each and every night. For instance I would start the routing at a certain time, for example 9:00. I would brush my teeth, floss, wash my face, and get my belongings ready for the next day all of which should take no more than an hour. This way I am ready for bed each night by 10:00. If I allow myself eight hours of sleep that means I will be able to wake up every morning at 6:00 and not feel tired or groggy. Since I would have two hours before having to go to work I would be able to walk my dog in the mornings for at least a half an hour which would make me more awake and energized for the day. Plus I would still have time to eat breakfast and by taking all of these steps I am able to achieve a healthier lifestyle overall.

    • Smoking causes lung cancer.
    • One out of three Americans is overweight or obese.
    • Illegal drug use is addictive and limits success.
    • Not getting enough sleep is harmful to health and learning.
    • Not practicing monogamous or safe sex can lead to STD’s including AIDS.

Knowing this information, why do people continue to smoke, overeat, take illegal drugs, miss out on sleep, or practice unsafe sex?

Mostly all smokers Know information about smoking being bad, but it does not stop them because they are addicted. Most smokers won't stop smoking until they experience a health issue or a disease that breaks their body apart. My dad has been smoking for over 35 years now and he still manages to smoke a lot and goes to lots of doctor visits.. This just explains what smoking does to you and how it affects your future.

Overeating is a big issue for many. I my self overeat sometimes because of my uncontrolled hunger. I overeat about 2-5 times a week. I think that overeating is caused by many reasons and even with people knowing its bad, they will continue to do so. I think overeating could be from depression or just having no knowledge of portion control.

Many people know the good and bad about taking illegal drugs and why they are bad. They continue to do so, for example peoplpe smoking become addicted and their bodies can't handle the withdrawals. Although, drugs give people different feelings whether its to help them clear their mind and become stress free.

Many People miss out on sleep especially college students. People still miss out on it because they may not know how it is really affecting their lives, studies and other things. I myself don't get enough sleep on daily basis because i work full time and full time students which makes it really hard for me to get enough sleep.

Many adults as well as teens will continue to have unsafe sex because, they aren't thinking or they just think nothing will happen to them. For example many teens/adults will think they won't get pregnant or won't get an STD. Its all lack of thinking and being unprepared. If youre going to have unsafe sex, think twice before you do.

  21. One out of three Americans is overweight or obese.

America has been widely known to be one of the most obese countries in the world. This is due to the over consumption of fast foods, and the lack of physical activity being associated with their everyday lives. People who eat at fast food places frequently are increasing their health risks, and are more likely to have chronic diseases in the future. I have learned that avoiding fast food restaurants could add another year of life expectancy. For people who are overweight or obese, it may be hard to completely avoid fast food or unhealthy foods, but cutting back is the first step to leading yourself into a healthier and happier lifestyle.

    1. Yes, obesity is a growing national problem. It is causing people to have shorter lives. Avoiding fast food and learning to cook at home is helpful.

  22. Not getting enough sleep is harmful to health and learning.
Even though everyone knows this, people still lose sleep due to cramming, friends, activities, and drinking caffeine can keep you from performing your best in any situation. Growing up I was always sleep-deprived, so my body just learned how to function without sleep. However, with all the needs to sleep, I never realized that it wasn't normal to get two-three hours every night, but that I should be getting more like eight-twelve hours a night. So thirteen years of not sleeping started catching up to me in the worst situations. I would end up falling asleep in class or during an important meeting. These kinds of things happened more often than not, but even to this day I can't sleep soundly at night. However, I learned that listening to music helps keep me asleep at night, so I began listening to things like the piano to relax me enough to fall asleep. It worked and still does; therefore, simple things like breathing, relaxing, listening to music, and even stretching can help you sleep more at night if you have trouble sleeping in general. Don't cram for finals, stay up watching tv or videos, or even stay up too late talking or hanging out with friends because it will cause problems later on in life that you may not have known.

    1. Hi Courtney,
It is true that cramming for finals is bad for you and its proven that cramming is worse than just sleeping to get rest. In general sleep is very important to everyone. Having a lack of sleep on a regular basis is very unhealthy and can cause issues with some one and it can effect them mentally in the long run as well. People need to sleep at least 6 hours a day on a regular basis for them to go through the day. I know when I don't get enough sleep the night before it screws with me the next day and i am thrown off and I get exhausted throughout the day and I feel drained when I get home.

    2. Scientists think that we should get 7.5-9 hours of sleep a night. Sleeping less causes health and memory problems. College students often suffer from being sleep deprived.

I think there's many reasons why people continue to overeat even when it's affecting their health. Weight doesn't necessarily mean you're healthy, you can be underweight, average or overweight and suffer from health issues. A person overeating can be due to the fact that they have a disorder, that they were never taught how to eat in moderation, or that they're just eating until they're full. A common misconception is that if your'e overweight you must eat in excess, but that isn't always the case. A person can be overweight due to various different things.
People may continue to eat in excess because they find comfort in food, they may have an insatiable hunger, or they may feel like they need to.

  24. Although smoking causes lung cancer, people are still smoking because they have become addicted to it. Even though these smokers know the consequences of smoking, they repeatedly do it because they say that it takes away their stress when they smoke. These smokers need to realize that there are plenty of alternatives to smoking that will take away the stress they are feeling. A great alternative to smoking is to exercise more often and maybe instead of smoking a cigarette, they could throw it down and have a healthy snack instead, which will make them feel much better than smoking. If smokers continue to smoke, they will end up living a very unhealthy life, and will most likely have less of a chance at becoming successful in the future. Also, drug addiction plays a big role in peoples lives because when people get addicted to drugs that are killing brain cells, is when they will start to want to do that drug more than actually completing their work, leading to an unhealthy lifestyle that can become tragic in the end.

  25. Knowing this information, why do people continue to smoke, overeat, take illegal drugs, miss out on sleep, or practice unsafe sex?
I guess the reason why people continue to do all of those stuff is because they just don’t care. I also think because when they are doing it they know that nothing is really going to happen to them until something actually does happen to then and then that’s when they stop doing it. Then they realize that its too late. Like smokers, for example. There is a lot of consequences to that. Like, you lose your teeth for instance. In the time you don’t have your teeth fall out you enjoy it but once your teeth start to rot youll realize you need to stop but its already going to be to late to save your teeth. People that take drugs continue doing it because they are simply addicted. Some may seek help but don’t end up getting the support for it so they keep doing it.

Some statements I might consider for a good health would be to be motivated to do so. Like, maybe have a reason to do so. If your sad, workout. If your boyfriend broke up with you, don’t go to eating junk food. Instead, hit the gym, workout and look, so good, that he will regret it. And if you are planning out to eat healthy start off small and work your way up to have a healthier lifestyle. You will then thank yourself for doing so. Instead of eating 1 apple go for two. Instead of drinking “Diet” coke, go for some water. It’s the little things that help. Your one day closer to your goal. Have motivation.

  26. Why do people continue to smoke after knowing it causes lung cancer?
Despite knowing that smoking causes lung cancer, many people continue to do it for many reasons. To start off, it is addictive and once people have begun to use it, it is hard to stop. They usually begin when they are younger and surrounded by young teenagers who influence and peer pressure them to start. Smoking cigarettes sometimes becomes the "cool" thing to do. Most people become addicted to it by they time they are adults. By that time, people try to quit but it becomes such a strong addiction that they resort to it at times of stress and anguish. It is a habit that is very hard and difficult to break. Knowing information about how smoking leads to many cancers such as lung cancer, heart diseases, aneurysms, and many other different sicknesses sometimes helps people to quit but the process is very tough. This information does not always matter to someone who is strongly addicted. All of these side effects mean nothing, and they continue to abuse the substance until it effects them negatively in the end and they regret their decision of using. This is why it is best to never get into these negative habits to begin with.

  27. Hello everyone,
Intend on eating more vegetables and fruits and replace instead of junk food. This will help me intake healthier food and not bad food. These give me way more nutritional intake than the junk food. Its also a better way of eating and will make me feel better about myself as well. I also intend on eating more nuts. This is a really good source of energy and protein that is a good and healthy snack to eat. I intend on trying to get my diet going and being serious about it so that I can lose weight so I can be healthy. I intend on making healthier choices when I eat so that I don't eat unhealthy foods and that I know what I am eating and that it gives me control of what I eat so that I can do that a a regular basis as well.

I believe its influence, these things seem to start off young and especially today, these things are constantly targeting the teens, with many i think it's simply what's around them like if they're parents smoke, the belief that, it's fine if they do too, and most of all peer pressure, pressure a 17-18 year old and they're bound to do something foolish to fit in, and somehow that's by doing drugs, smoking, drinking before 21 all seems pretty cool to them especially when everything around them is saying to do so. I believe that those kids are fully aware of what could happen to them, the Internet tells you everything's and it's basically commen sense at this point that it's all pretty bad for you, but that's where someone's influences, addiction and just arrogance starts talking back and continues to do these things, a lack of care and bad choices, those habits become who that person is and snapping them back together is obviously very difficult.

  29. Make your stress your friend. Control it and try to talk to it in a way. Sit down and organize all the things that are going on currently in your life. Take breathes because some of the things you are stressing about are nothing to stress about because of how easy they are accomplishable. Make a deadline for each and a time to get things done and minimize the priorities and get what needs to get done, done.

  30. Sleep to remember. Remember to sleep. Sleep is very important to health and stress. You need to sleep to remember and remember to sleep. Sleeping will fuse you to remember things more and you have to make sleeping a regular routine. Make it part of your day and make a schedule and a set time to go to bed and sleep.

I honestly think people do this because they want to do it and they honestly do not care. They think that they would rather have fun then pay attention to following the “rules”. Like when people eat a lot they just eat because they get bored. That’s what happens to my mom when she is bored she tends to snack on things because there is nothing else to do.

  32. Knowing this information, why do people continue to smoke, overeat, take illegal drugs, miss out on sleep, or practice unsafe sex?

People take part in these activities because they probably know someone who does it. They think to themselves that it would not hurt if they were to drink or smoke. The bad habits usually have negative long term effects, so many people are just fine to deal with the issues later. It is important to take care of your health now in order to be healthy all your life. It will add more years to your life. Sleeping more will allow you to have energy throughout the day, which will let you be more aware of your surroundings and to also stay more focused. Cut back or limit yourself when drinking or smoking in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, or talk to someone that can help you quit.

  33. Maintain Good Health
First off I will never, ever smoke. I have family members who do it and I absolutely HATE it. I have been exposed to second hand smoke my whole life. In fact, because of it I have developed a cough. So, I will ever have to worry about myself smoking because I am aware of what an expensive and deadly habit it is. In addition, I will maintain my health by eating more nutritious meals. I am very guilty of eating a lot of junk. Therefore, I can improve by decreasing the amount of carbohydrates and red meats that I consume. Instead, I need to add more beneficial foods such as: fruits, vegetables, dairy, oils, etc. Not only will healthy eating help, but better exercise as well. I admit I do not work out as much as I used to/should. I need to make more time available for exercise as well as do different exercises to improve my cardio and so on. However I think the biggest way I can improve my health and maintain is by being more involved with the world I am living in, rather than the cyber one.

Sleep to Remember, Remember to Sleep
I learned a few new things after watching Ted Talks, "Sleep to Remember, Remember to Sleep." In the video it talks about how we study the night before a test to remember and cram everything in. but that is actually the wrong way. Ted Talks tells us that sleep is actually better for you mentally and physically. You should not stay up late to study because you are most likely not going to remember a thing; Instead, go to sleep and get the rest you need. Getting enough sleep will help you do better on the test or whatever you are doing that day.

  35. Smoking is a terrible act for one’s body and can destroy their lungs, teeth, gums, and even their lifestyle. It is clear that smokers are aware of what they end results could be if they continue this bad habit yet they continue to do so because they are addicted and feel as though it relieves them from any form of stress. Yes it is understandable by many that stress can sometime be difficult to overcome but there are many other ways in which one can deal with stress in a healthy way. Smoking is not the way to go. One can try exercising more often, which can help clear their mind of anything that may bring stress to their life. One can also try managing their time more so they are not stuck with trying to complete a homework assignment or cram in their study sessions late at night. Instead they can have 8 hours of sleep that night and feel more relaxed the next day. Yes it may be extremely hard to quit smoking but they just need to take it day by day and try their best one step at a time. Nothing in life comes easy but it just takes effort, motivation, and determination.

  36. Okay, so to begin my posting I will start with my intention statements for good health. I intend to eat healthier and live a healthier lifestyle so that I can try to do what I can to live as long as I can. I intend to try to make sleep a priority in my life as well as my children's. I make sure that they stick to some sort of sleep schedule, but as for myself, it is really challenging to get the sleep I need (especially with another baby coming in less than a couple weeks).
As for the video, I watched Know The Dangers of Not Getting Enough Sleep and it spoke about a lot of things I learned about before. The video said that it is imperative that we get sleep but we are still not sure why we need sleep. It said that deep sleep and REM sleep are very important for memory and dreaming which are both important for optimal sleep. A few things that the video didn't cover that I learned in my psychology class last semester was as follows: that constantly not getting enough sleep is just as bad as not sleeping at all, you can experience personality changes (which I have experienced and didn't realize when I worked at night), and that as we age we need less and less sleep but we still need a certain amount none-the-less.
Sleep deprivation is really not something to joke about. When I worked nights for about 5 or 6 months, it was the hardest thing that I have ever had to do. My oldest daughter had just started school, my second child had just turned two, and our third child was about three months. I was just about to go back to work when I knew that working during the week was not an option; I was only going to be able to work weekends and nights. Boy, was I in for the ride of my life. I thought I could take on everything. Believe me, I knew I would be tired, but I did not know that I would start being short tempered, my personality would change, I would start to have nightmares and think that the devil was inside of me influencing me, and I did not know that it would last and linger even after I got a good nights sleep. I would say it has taken most of a year to feel like myself again. The weird dreams stopped immediately after I started getting more sleep, the feeling that I had the devil inside me stopped after a couple months, and the anger (short tempered-ness) took the longest amount of time to overcome. But when I learned about sleep deprivation in my psychology class, I truly felt like I wasn't crazy anymore. I felt that everything made sense and that I could overcome the obstacles I was facing. Take it from me, sleep deprivation is nothing to take lightly.
